Salford City drew Port Vale in the third round of the Leasing.com Trophy on Thursday night, and here’s their possible route to the Wembley Final.
The game will be played at the Peninsula Stadium in the week commencing the January 6 2020, with both sides having won every game in the competition so far.
Port Vale won all of their fixtures in Group D and progressed through their first knockout round against Mansfield on penalties.
With the competition now at its second knockout round stage, the teams left in the competition will have one eye on a potential final tie at Wembley on 5 April, 2020.

This is Salford’s first ever involvement in this competition and they’re yet to concede a goal in this campaign. The Ammies only played two group games, as they were originally drawn in a group with Bury – a side who were withdrawn from the competition after the club were expelled from the Football League in August.
Salford won their two group games against Aston Villa’s Under 21 side and Tranmere Rovers, both by a 2-0 scoreline, thus finishing top of Group C in the Northern Section.
From there, Graham Alexander’s side drew Wolverhampton Wanderers Under 21 side in the first round of the competition, dispatching the Premier League youngsters in a convincing 3-0 victory to seal a tie versus the Valiants – another Midlands outfit – in the second round.
Salford City now find themselves three games from a second trip to Wembley in the space of 12 months – having secured promotion to the League Two with a 3-0 win over AFC Fylde at the national stadium in May.

So far in the Leasing.com trophy, Salford have been restricted to playing teams in the northern section of the draw, with the competition divided between northern and southern clubs.
If the Ammies progress past Port Vale in January, they will find themselves in the quarter finals of the trophy and consequently, will be able to play the southern sides who reach that stage.
Among the southern teams still in the competition are Ipswich, who currently sit second in League One, and Portsmouth, the current holders of the competition.
Additional third tier opposition such as Fleetwood and Accrington Stanley are still in the competition, but a favourable draw against fellow League Two teams including Walsall or Stevenage would help Salford in their quest for silverware.
