Irlam cricket club have put out an appeal for new players ahead of the 2019/20 season.

The club, who are set to compete in the competitive ‘Dvision 2A’, say they’re looking for ‘all types’ of cricketers to come and join their first team.

However, the club admit the upcoming season ahead could be potentially very challenging as they battle with not only the opposition but keeping their own numbers active.

“We sometimes struggle with getting sufficient players and it would be great to try and grow the club as over the years we have declined in player registration.” The club said.

“We used to have a full junior set up and three senior teams and now over the years we are down to just one senior team.”

“It would be great to get the club out there as we’re sure there are plenty of players out there.”

The club is just one of many cricket teams around the nation that sometimes struggles to field a full XI.

A set of statistics published in November, 2019 showed that on average a staggering 72,00 people in the UK have stopped playing cricket since 2016 each month.

The statistics also showed between 2013 and 2018 the number of children aged between 11-15 dropped by just under 10%.

The club which boast an impressive set up and modern facilities start all over again February when they begin their indoor training before eventually moving outside just before seeing in the new season.
