A Persian refugee who wishes to not be named is hoping to extend their visa and stay in Salford, despite being homeless.

With just four  months left of their six month work visa the refugee is becoming increasingly worried about what will happen when it is up.

“I’m thinking about my situation after six months and i’m really worried,” they said.

They are currently using various day and night shelter for the homeless.

“I’m a little bit struggling here, I have aniexty.”

They were left homeless after being released from prison in October.

The reason behind the sentence was as an impact of bringing a torch with a Taser attached from Iran to the UK.

“My mum packed my suitcase,” they explained.

“They asked me in the airport why did I bring that and I said I’m sorry about that.”

Barry Matley, the manager at the Narowgate night shelter, Churchill Way, Salford is hoping to help people like the refugee with his day and night shelter.

He said: “The main thing about the day shelter is the mental health.”

Mr Matley opened the centre during the day after having concerns that a night shelter was not enough.

“You’re travelling around with a heavy bag, you’re feeling down as it is and all you’re thinking about is the next thing.

“It is just existing.”

Mr Matley wishes to help rehabilitate those using the shelter offering help with any alcohol abuse, providing them with care and support through citisens advice.

“We are making sure they aren’t treated like kids, they take their own responsibility and clean up the place.”
