Walkden Manor Care Home is raising funds to help pay for music therapy sessions.

The music therapy sessions from a private musician become too expensive for the home, Julie Mather, activities coordinator, has put out an appeal to try and raise money so they can continue them.

Having music and entertainment is important for older people and can really improve their quality of life according to Julie, she said, “The music helps to bring back lots of happy memories for our residents and the music therapy really helps them keep active.”

Julie is selling raffle tickets, giving people the chance to win various prizes such as hampers gift vouchers donated by the local community.

Putting out various appeals on Facebook, Julie hopes people will either donate or buy raffle tickets to raise as much money as possible for the residents. She asks for donations, “no matter how big or small” as it would really help them to provide this entertainment.

Through the appeal, community has come together to help put on a Christmas party for the residents, to bring festive spirit into the home and make Christmas time more enjoyable for Walkden Manor Care Home.

Spencer Massey, local DJ, came into the home free of charge to perform for the OAPs, helping them to enjoy their Christmas party.

Julie explained how much Spencer’s performance meant to the residents, “He’s absolutely fantastic and helps us to get them up dancing and generally have fun.”

Also giving a special performance free of charge was Salford band, The Locals, hoping their performance would bring smiles to the residents faces.

Julie expresses how grateful she is for all the people that have donated and bought raffle tickets so far.

She said “I couldn’t do any of this without the help of my manager Sonia Duffy and all the staff around me.

“I really hope we can get the funds for our music therapist for our residents, we just love them so we like to give them the best.”
