A short stories competition has launched today for young people to take part in, as ‘A Monster Calls’ production comes to The Lowry Theater.
The competition is looking for anyone aged 10-25 to submit creative writing pieces which are shorter than 500 words.
Stories should focus on themes discussed within A Monster Calls, which include family, grief, truth and friendship.
The show was based on the critically acclaimed novel by Patrick Ness which sold more than 1 million copies, and twice won the Carnegie and Greenaway Medals for outstanding children’s literature and illustration. Now the stage show, directed by Sally Cookson, has gone on to become an Olivier award-winner.

Cast members of the stage show will narrate selected stories, which will then be posted across the productions social media platforms.
The competition is open to individuals alongside schools and community groups.
The submission deadline for the stories is February 20, ahead of the shows first performance at The Lowry on February 25.
