Salford University’s Student Union is going green this month to encourage positive, environmental change.
The campaign, titled “Go Green Salford”, has been running annually since 2013 and hopes to get students, staff and the local community making more eco-friendly life choices.
According to an audit from Salford City Council, 22% of the city is green-space. For an urban environment, this is an impressive statistic, but it compares poorly against Edinburgh’s 49%, making it the UK’s greenest city.
The Go Green Salford project aims to improve this through a series of fun, educational and interactive activities, allowing people to “get involved and take action.”
The project is split over four weeks. Each with a different aspect of activism in mind, such as working green and eating green.
Events will be hosted every weekday on campus until March 6th.
Including:
- Green arts and media Exhibitions at the New Adelphi building (Monday 10th- Friday 16th, all day)
- Tree identification walks (Wednesday 12th, 1-3pm)
- Vintage clothing fair in the North Side, University House (Monday 17th, 10am-5pm)
- Tree planting at David Lewis and Crescent Meadows (Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th, 1-3pm)
- Recycling Roadshow at MediaCityUK (Monday 24th, 10am-3:30pm)
