Fancy an excuse to get out for a Tuesday night tipple? Today is National Wine Drinking Day and here is a list of the five best stopping-off places for a Salford wine bar crawl.

Portages Tapas and Wine Bar

A hidden gem on Salford’s Chapel Street is Porta Tapas and Wine Bar. If you fancy some authentic Spanish tapas with a beautiful glass of wine, head down to Porta.

With its classic and cozy vibe, Porta prides itself on embracing the true concept of tapas, allowing people to enjoy a social experience catching up with friends over a unique bottle of wine and a few small plates.

The chain run by brothers Ben and Joe Wright began in Chester, then added Altrincham in 2016, and finally Salford in 2018.

Porta has a short, but frequently updated, wine list. Manager Jack Walford said: “You can have a huge long wine list that’s going to have all sorts of things but we go for quality over quantity here at Porta. A lot of our wines are not recognisable wines because they are blends but our aim is to encourage people to try new wines.

“Our house red comes in at a very reasonable £11.70 for a carafe, perfect for sharing, and our top end Rioja is £30.”

He describes Porta and its unique Spanish wine list in the video below.
