There will be dancing in the aisles when critically acclaimed Not Quite Light festival returns to Salford this year – with a supermarket as one of its venues.

Tesco will be opening its doors on March 27 for an evening of music, food and good vibes as part of the third annual festival.

Disco Tesco will use music and food to bring together different nationalities at the Salford Precinct branch, by serving food from around the world, to the music of DJs from different countries.

Simon Buckley, director of the Not Quite Light festival, said: “I chose Tesco because I live nearby and all of the world’s foods are in there, so it just occurred to me that it would be really lovely to reflect the diversity of the neighbourhood using music and food.

“We wanted to spread out from the corner of Chapel Street, so although the hub is in New Bailey, it was important that we registered our presence in the other parts of the city and to go out to the Precinct.”

The free event will be held between 7pm and 10pm, inviting the people of Salford to enjoy what the event has to offer.

Simon added: “We’re hoping to attract the people of Salford. I want them to have events to go to that they can enjoy. Salford’s got a strong history and lots of talent that’s emerged and continues to do so.

“Creativity can do a lot of good in people’s lives, and hopefully, this is a way of involving people from inside and outside of Salford, as its good to get people into the city to have people aware of what the city has to offer.”

All proceeds from the Not Quite Light festival including Disco Tesco, will go to Henshaws charity, for people who need sight-loss support.

Henshaws was established in 1837, more than 180 years ago. The money raised from the Not Quite Light festival will help deliver Living with Sight Loss courses.

In Salford 2.6 per cent of the population live with sight loss – that is 6,350 people in 2015 which is set to rise to 8,340 people by 2030, an increase of 31.3 per cent. Henshaws has a long partnership with Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, allowing advances in research and prevention.
