A member of the Salford Litter Heroes has organised a fundraiser to help support mental health, whilst also keeping Salford free from litter.

Danielle Wright, who founded the Salford Litter Heroes campaign, announced her aim to raise £1200 for the MIND mental health charity yesterday afternoon.

Her plans are for that every £2 raised, one bag of litter will be collected from the streets of Salford. For example, if the £1200 target is met, a grand total of 600 bags of rubbish will be picked up.

Miss Wright felt that now was the best possible time to raise money for mental health awareness “I just thought it was quite fitting since most people in my life suffer with mental health issues.” Mental health awareness has been a major talking point recently, particularly in relation to the recent passing of Caroline Flack.

Littering and fly tipping harms not only the beauty of Salford, but comes at an expensive cost to the Council.

Wright has urged locals to help the group meet their targets: “The Salford Community could raise awareness of our efforts and work” which would come as a real benefit to both the community and the environment.

In addition to the MIND/Cleaner Salford fundraiser, the Salford Little Heroes have scheduled a number of events to encourage the people of Salford to help keep the City clean.

On Saturday the 1st of March, the group will be participating in a litter pick of Swinton’s Queensmere Dam.

And on the 4th of April, it’s Salford Heroes Day, where residents and their kids are being urged to dress up and help out at Albert Park.

“I got the idea off a fellow litter picker, who also does ‘zombie’ litter picks during Halloween.” Last year’s dress up also proved to be a hit with children. “The kids loved it last time, they dressed up as heroes because they like using the pickers as guns.”

If you want to donate to Danielle’s fundraiser, the JustGiving page is here. But if you seek some advice on how to deal with littering or fly-tipping, you can contact the Salford Litter Heroes here.
