Opener Alex Davies believes that Lancashire Lightning have what it takes to improve on last season’s Vitality T20 Blast quarter-final finish.
Despite winning the Northern section, the Red Rose were forced to play their last-eight match at Chester-le-Street last September due to a clash with Old Trafford hosting the fourth Ashes Test.
Lightning were subsequently beaten by the eventual tournament winners Essex Eagles.
Yet despite that disappointment, Davies reckons Lancs are in a strong position to advance past the quarter-finals this season.
He said: “We were disappointed last year to lose the quarter-final but we’re an experienced team now and we’ll be looking to go that extra step further.”
The club have again secured the services of the Australian all-rounding duo Glenn Maxwell and James Faulkner.
Maxwell, 31, rejoins exclusively for T20 cricket after being an all-format overseas player in 2019 whilst Faulkner, 29, signs for his fourth spell at the county.
And Davies believes that the pair will help Lancs’ in their search for limited-overs silverware this season.

He added: “Maxi is a massive player for us, he did really well last year and Jimmy Faulkner is a part of the furniture. We’ll have a strong core again and we’ll be looking to go the whole way this year.”
Lancashire’s opening Blast match is on Friday 29th May at Liverpool CC against Northamptonshire Steelbacks.
The marquee Roses games against Yorkshire Vikings are due to take place on Thursday 4th June at Headingley and Friday 10th July at Old Trafford.
