Women’s cricket team Lancashire Thunder could have up to four players feature in the Women’s World T20 knockout matches as the semi-finals get underway this week.

England bowling pair Kate Cross and Sophie Ecclestone as well as former Lancashire player Danielle Wyatt could play against India in the early hours of Thursday morning.

They will likely come up against their overseas Thunder teammate and Indian captain, Harmanpreet Kaur.

Cross missed out on England’s final group match against West Indies due to pulling up injured in the warm-up.

The Manchester-born seamer had scans on Sunday but they came back inconclusive so she underwent further scans on Monday with just days to go until England meet India in Sydney.

On a more positive note for Lancashire and England, Sophie Ecclestone has been widely lauded for her impressive displays throughout the tournament.

The 20 year-old is set to play in her first tournament knockout match following her match-winning figures of 3-7 against the West Indies on Sunday.

Australian cricket journalist Adam Collins has heaped praise on the impressive Ecclestone via Twitter.

He said: “No better bowler to be sending down the 19th than Sophie Ecclestone, the best spinner in the world.”

In the other semi-final, Australia play South Africa with the Lancashire Thunder overseas bowling all-rounder Sune Luus set to play her 68th T20 international for South Africa.

Both games will be played on Thursday morning with India V England at 4am being followed by Australia V South Africa at 8am.

The final is to be held at the MCG in Melbourne on Sunday at 7am with the world record attendance for a women’s cricket match being targeted.
