Salford Red Devils fullback, Niall Evalds, highlighted his side’s impressive comeback against Wigan Warriors as an important victory.

Salford’s all-time leading Super League try-scorer marked Friday night’s win with another two tries, equalising for the Reds with an outstanding 90-metre sprint at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Speaking after the game, the 26-year-old said: “We needed that. We’ve had a tough start to the season.

“We’ve not performed as much as we’ve wanted to, so it was important that we put on a performance and got the result.”

Friday night’s man of the match spoke about his team’s better second-half performance against the Warriors, their first meeting since Salford’s 4-28 victory in 2019’s Super League semi-final.

“We’ve worked on shifting the ball a bit more these past few weeks, but we didn’t get into positions to execute in that first half.

“But in the second we got into the right spots, it gave me and the outside backs a bit more opportunity and it paid dividends.”

Evalds has been getting himself into the right spots quite frequently in 2020, as Super League’s fourth-highest try-scorer, enough to secure himself a place in Shaun Wane’s first senior England squad earlier this month.

Aside from his own individual successes this season, the fullback is happy with the direction the Red Devils are going.

“We’ve had some disappointing losses, but it’s a brand new team, everyone’s getting used to each other.

“You can tell we’re building, and it’s paying off.”
