People waited in long lines spaced apart waiting to get inside ALDI in Salford Shopping Centre today.

The store is operating a policy that permits only one person per household to shop at one time unless they require assistance.

NHS staff take priority over other shoppers and are able to bypass the line.

This comes after heightened government social-distancing guidelines in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

ALDI employees stand outside the supermarket to decide how many people are able to enter at once.

Staff have been receiving abuse in response to the policy with some customers frustrated they were not allowed to go in with the rest of their household despite some customers, who need help while shopping, being able to enter with others.

Employees at ALDI say they will call the police if they are mistreated by the public.

Other stores around Salford have also adopted social-distancing policies including Tesco’s Extra, who have implemented a number of measures as part of their efforts to prevent the spread of the virus.
