NHS 111

Salford has had more deaths in care homes due to Coronavirus in the UK than any other local authority.

It comes as the Office for National Statistics released the total number of deaths that occurred up to April 10 but were registered up to April 18 today, with Salford recording 46 deaths.

Cardiff is the second highest with 32 deaths recorded, followed by Southwark, County Durham and Ealing all of whom are on 27.

It is unknown at present why the number of care home deaths recorded in Salford is higher than anywhere else in the country.

Residents all across the UK have been voicing their concern over the lack of communication from the government regarding the true figures, whereby care homes and home deaths have not been accounted for in the government’s daily briefings.

Liz Kendall who is the MP for Leicester had this to say:

The UK is currently in its fifth week of lockdown, and residents are being urged to continue doing so to protect the NHS and save lives.

The government is advising you to:

Stay at home

  • Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)
  • If you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at all times
  • Wash your hands as soon as you get home

Do not meet others, even friends or family.

You can spread the virus even if you don’t have symptoms.
