A mum of three from Salford is challenging herself to run five half marathons this month for Dancing with Dementia.

Lindsay Siddall, 41, usually spends her time working as a respiratory support worker on weekdays and helping end of life patients at weekends, or she is looking after her three children.

However, she wanted to do her part for the community and decided to run a half marathon every week during October.

Initially, the plan was for Lindsay to participate in the Manchester half marathon in April but it was postponed because of COVID.

She said that it was her luck that she chose a month that has five weeks, so she would have to run five half marathons, instead of four!

“I am lucky that my friend Luke runs the half marathons with me every week and supports me.

“I did half marathons when I was younger, but it has been a while since I trained properly so this is definitely a challenge.

“Every time I felt like I could not carry on, he would cheer me on and push me to finish.”

Dancing with Dementia provides entertainment for people with dementia and their carers. It was first started by Lesley Fisher when she noticed that there was nothing for herself, as a carer, or her sister to look forward to and she didn’t want their lives to be ruled by the cruel illness.

Lesley said: “We are overwhelmed at the support and generosity of the local community.

“Lindsay has supported Dancing with Dementia from the set up of the group by selling tickets for fundraisers and raffle tickets at events. She even modeled at fashions shows for us!

Despite Covid-19 restrictions, the charity is still working on two projects; Secret Santa for Seniors and Baby Love where baby dolls are dressed and given to residents in care homes.

She added: “It is so rewarding to be part of it all and the funds raised will be used to enhance the well-being of our guests.”

Lindsay has raised £340 already for the charity and you can donate via Facebook.
