True Student Living has confirmed plans for the second phase of its new Salford student accommodation site.

The building, with a construction value of more than £30million, will add 457 more bedrooms to the brand’s latest residence, which opened at the start of this academic year.

Located behind Salford Quays’ Anchorage tram stop, the project will again be completed by Create Construction, of Blackpool, on behalf of property group Bricks.

The ‘Discovery Quay’ development is one of three locations at which the company currently operates its true student accommodation brand.

Ben Morley, Managing Director at true Student Living, said: “Salford is a really interesting and exciting city.

“From providing the World’s first free public library to a huge period of regeneration across the last two decades, notably the amazing MediaCityUK and other fantastic tourist attractions such as Ordsall Hall, the Bridgewater Canal and the Lowry centre.

“It is home to the University of Salford which has great academic strengths in engineering, health, digital & creative plus Sport which has resulted in a large growth of student numbers both domestically and Internationally in recent years to c.20k in total.

“We recognise the market is attractive but also structurally undersupplied and with a lack of quality student accommodation and ultimately choice for students.

“This is why we are delighted to bring our multi-awarding winning proposition to Salford which caters for students across Salford and Manchester more broadly.”

Phase one of true Manchester, Salford, which includes 402 bedrooms over 14,500 square metres, already provides residents with a gym, coffee shop, ‘Festival Zone’ and the brand’s famous ‘true slide’.

Paul Mathison, CEO of Create Construction, explained: “Our partnership with Bricks Capital is going from strength to strength, as they share the same core values of ‘Integrity’ ‘collaborative’ and ‘easy to do business with’ – we are looking forward to another successful partnership in the delivery of this next phase of our Discovery Quays project in Salford, an important part of the exciting regeneration of the city.”

Work on the site will start later this month and is expected to finish around the same time in 2022.
