MediaCityUK church and community hub, has launched a Crowdfunder page in order to raise funds for its 2020 Christmas Hamper appeal.

The initiative has been launched by the church to support those adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Community Hub Leader, Hannah Millar is heading up the appeal and wants to support as many families across Salford as possible, with other essential support being offered by the hub to those who have been negatively affected by the pandemic also available.

She said: “2020 has been such a tough year, for so many people. Especially the communities that our organisation and hubs work with…its really hit them the hardest.

“Many people have lost jobs, had their hours cut, been forced to isolate alone and people have felt very cut off…and Christmas is a time of joy and it should be filled with stress and worry!

“With everything that has happened this year, families are going to be worried about paying for Christmas and being able to provide that family experience that family should be about.”

Hampers will be distributed on the week running up to Christmas by the team at the community hub, with students at Oasis Academy also making stockings for families with young children which will include hot chocolate cones and reindeer food.

“Oasis has vowed to pledge 1000 hampers this Christmas all across the UK, to the most vulnerable families within our communities.

“At MediaCity we have pledged to provide 30 hampers for families across the city, with additional hampers being added if we get enough donations.

“Within the hampers we want to ensure that families have essential items such as pastas, sauces, soups and rice. But we also want to make sure that there is some festive niceness in their like chocolate, mince pies and family activities.

“Christmas is all about family coming together and sitting down, and spending quality time together and by including board games and family crafts we can provide this magic for the most vulnerable.”

The Church has seen first-hand the need for emergency food for families since March and are aware that over winter this need is even more essential. Donations can be made via the Oasis Hub website with a Crowdfunder target of £500.

“What everyone can give is completely different, we just want the community to come together and support a cause that really will make a difference this Christmas, because everyone deserves a little bit of magic at this time of year”.
