Salford’s Sacred Trinity Church is inviting people to get their ‘creative juices flowing’ for a Christmas Story-themed advent photography competition.

For the first 24 days of December, there will be a daily online competition which will be hosted on the church’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

On each day the theme behind the photographs will be different- with each day being linked to a theme from the Christmas Story.

Rector of Sacred Trinity Church, Andy Salmon, hopes the competition will inspire the Salford community to get out and about and provide some much-needed positivity after a tough year for many people.

He said: “We’re very keen on photography at the church, with many of our congregation being keen photographers, and we wanted to do something different, so we thought why not run a photography competition.

“We hope this photo competition is just something that can interest the wider community, get their creative juices flowing, and get everyone thinking about the wider themes of Christmas.

“We actually think that the Christmas story at its heart is a story of comfort, joy and hope and we think everyone needs things like that at the moment.”

Salmon admits that Christmas will feel very different this year, with the usual events that take part at the church at Christmas, such as the annual beer and carols event, not being able to take place this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“The main things that happen during December is we have some really great events were we sing and get together, but unfortunatly this year it looks like we won’t be able to” Salmon admits.

To enter the competition all you need to do is take a photography of the theme which it is on that day (see image below), then upload it to Facebook or Instagram using the #salfordadvent or #sacredtrinitychurch and tagging the church in your post.

There will be prizes awarded for the best photos over the 24 days, with the judging panel including professional local photographer Simon Buckley.

Prizes include a £20 voucher to spend at Deli Lama as well as the chance to win a round of drinks or a meal for two (with wine) from The Eagle.

Alongside the prizes, Salmon has said that he hopes the best photos will be printed out and displayed around the edge of the church, which is located on Chapel Street.
