Singer Freya Beer is raising money for Salford Loaves and Fishes by performing her new song as part of a charity livestream.

Beer, 22, is performing ‘Beast’ as part of the Christmas is Coming, Concert for Hope event in aid of Salford Loaves and Fishes, a charity specialising in feeding the homeless and vulnerable.

The new song will be the first time audiences have had the chance to hear it and will be included in Beer’s upcoming debut album.

Beer believes she has a special connection with Greater Manchester. “I chose to perform because Manchester and Salford have always been close to my heart.

“The people there have been so supportive of my music. I had a couple people come up to me and say they thought I was actually from Manchester. Which I loved”.

Beer will be performing ‘Beast’ as well as her hit single ‘Dear Sweet Rosie’ which grew in popularity on BBC Radio 6 and across streaming apps, amassing nearly 19,000 streams on Spotify and 5,000 views on YouTube.

The Concert for Hope will include over 150 performers, ranging from school choirs to professional singers, such as Freya Beer, with all donations going to Salford Loaves and Fishes.

Homelessness is a major problem in the Salford area. According to Greater Together Manchester, 5,564 people are homeless with 1,804 in Salford, not including people staying with others or ‘sofa surfing’.

Salford Loaves and Fishes provides emergency well-being packages for the homeless and vulnerable. They also provide judgment-free advice and guidance on how to access foodbanks and seek further help.

Freya believes that the livestream is a worthwhile cause. “Performing is such a good way to support and publicise charities.

“With things as they currently are and the hardship people are experiencing, I’m happy to play my part in supporting [Salford Loaves and Fishes]”.

The Concert for Hope event takes place on Wednesday 16th December on YouTube and on their website.
