MediaCityUK will be holding an online Facebook event to celebrate international Women’s Day on March 8.

The free event will take place virtually on the MediaCityUK Facebook page just after 6pm.

The event itself will include an all-star diverse female panel of stars such as BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin, multi-award-winning actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, television and theatre actress Melissa Johns, actress Shelly King, television presenter, writer, and journalist Anna Richardson and Channel 4 News presenter Ayshah Tull.

The female panel will be discussing issues such as stereotypes and gender bias in the TV industry and the highs and lows of being a woman in television as well as how to celebrate and elevate women worldwide.

Permission given by Emma Green

The theme of this year’s event is #ChooseToChallenge, encouraging individuals and organisations to send in an image with a raised hand to show commitment, call out bias, question stereotypes, and help create an inclusive world.

Covering a wide variety of topics such as news, entertainment, education, soaps and drama, the event will cover inspiring and insightful topics for an in-depth 45-minute show of honest and eye-opening conversation. The event will also be broadcast with subtitles and signed in British Sign Language.

The event celebrates women’s achievements and calls out gender bias and inequality to help create a more inclusive culture.

MediaCityUK have received around 50 videos from women within their very own media community who are also coming together in support of movement.

Emma Green, social media and PR executive for MediaCityUK and member of Northern Power Women’s Future List said:

“MediaCityUK is stacked full of talented, innovative and creative women and we have been working with some of the brilliant women within our community to show just a snapshot of the talent we have here. This is without doubt one of the campaigns we are proudest of working on and everyone is welcome to join us.

“So, grab a brew (or a glass of wine and some nibbles) and join us on International Women’s Day next Monday.”
