LS Lowry’s depictions of Salford have been made available to view from home as part of a virtual tour.

Through ‘Smartify’, The Lowry is allowing the public to view the artists work online while their galleries are closed.

In a series of short videos lasting 10-minutes overall, the gallery’s team take viewers on a tour of the gallery while providing detailed information about the work of LS Lowry (1887-1976).

The team also share interesting facts about the history of key places in Salford which Lowry featured in his various landscapes, such as Peel Park and the former County Court. Some of which are highlighted on the interactive map below:

“Landscapes of Salford” is introduced by curator Claire Stewart. It is just one of the virtual tours that have been made available, each one focussing on a different theme of Lowry’s work.

Across the various themes, there are over 140 artworks available to view, each with detailed descriptions and an accompanying video.

The artwork, which is part of the LS Lowry collection, was transferred from Salford Museum and Art Gallery to The Lowry at Salford Quays when it opened in 2000.

The Lowry hopes to reopen its galleries to the public on Monday, May 17 in keeping with government guidance. Until then, the collection is available to view free of charge through Smartify here or by downloading the app.
