Richard Marshall was full of praise for ‘unsung hero’ Harvey Livett over his performance on Friday night as he helped Salford Red Devils to their first win of the 2021 Super League season.

Whilst it was a comfortable win in the end for Salford, it was very much in the balance earlier on and so the two assists followed by a late try of his own showcased how important Livett is to the Red Devils.

Speaking about the 24-year-old after the match, head coach Marshall said: “Yeah Harvey’s been a bit of an unsung hero over the last few weeks. We had to play him in the center when we lost Matt Costello and I thought he grew as the game, went forward but he’s been good over the last few weeks Harvey, he’s been one of our standouts.

“He’s still only a young player and still got a lot to learn, a lot to develop on but he’s certainly cementing his place in the team at the moment and even when we’ve been playing poorly, he’s been one of our shining stars.”

Salford trailed 8-6 at half-time after an error-plagued first period but they came out a different side in the second period and Marshall said there were some strong words at the break.

He said: “Well we were pleased to be in a contest but the contest we were in was our own doing, it was because of the errors we had made in that first-half.

“We didn’t want to be going in with just a two-point gap, so yeah we had a few words, we spoke about fixing things up in certain areas and we knew we’d come through the other side.

“We did want to be in a contest, we got that, but we came through, I thought our defence in the second-half was really good, I thought we really got amongst Leigh.

“I know they got a bit busted by the end and we went over a couple of times, I thought it was a good win from us.”
