People have been reacting to the news that Coronation Street is to crossover with Britain’s other soaps and continuing dramas to draw attention to the climate crisis.
It was announced last week that the world’s longest running soap, which is filmed and based in Salford, will participate in a crossover with the likes of Emmerdale, Doctors and Hollyoaks to highlight environmental issues.

A café in Irlam has been rated the best in Salford by visiting customers on ratings website TripAdvisor.
The Station Café Bar, which serves bistro-style food, boasts an 81% ‘very good’ or above rating and is popular among locals and tourists alike.

Salford Red Devils are celebrating a “great start” to the trials for their new women’s squad, which took place yesterday evening.
The trials, which were held at the AJ Bell stadium, are the first of their kind in the club’s history.

Greater Manchester-based charity I AM has been helping people with autism in Salford cope throughout the pandemic.
The Covid-19 pandemic has proven difficult for some autistic people, having a large impact on established routine and bringing in new elements of uncertainty; however, the I AM charity has been attempting to alleviate these difficulties for those living with autism in Salford.

“The gears need to get churning on a quicker scale” – Walk Ride Salford Central call for more Low Traffic Neighbourhoods to be implemented
A Salford resident is angry about the removal of a measure to reduce traffic in Blackfriars.
Harry Gray, a spokesperson for Walk Ride Salford Central group, says the council should reinstate a Low Traffic Neighbourhood zone, which is brought in to reduce pollution, encourage road safety and walking.

“We’re already making a difference” – Sports Traider Salford branch celebrates one month anniversary
Sports Traider, the charity sports shop at Salford Shopping Centre, opened up in September and has seen plenty of people through its doors since then in its effort to provide affordable sportswear for all.
Every item in the store is priced at £5 or less, with many of the items being donated from the community.

Prime Minister Pinocchio: The Lost Happy Endings ballet comes to The Lowry
The Lost Happy Endings is coming to The Lowry this weekend.
A new piece of dance theatre from Newcastle-based balletLORENT, the production is based off a children’s book by former poet laureate and MMU contemporary poetry professor, Carol Ann Duffy, and will be narrated by Joanna Lumley.

Renowned Salford community café ‘Hug in a Mug’ is set to open a grab-and-go version in Walkden Town Centre.
‘Cuddle in a Cup’, which will serve fast food including pies, soup, cakes and slushies, will open towards the end of the month.

‘Chatty Benches’ launch in Walkden Town Centre
Salford mental health charity START will be introducing ‘Chatty Benches’ to Walkden in order to combat loneliness and isolation in the area.
The benches, which are are designed to encourage people to sit and chat in the hope that it helps them to reconnect with others and support positive mental health, will be located on the upper floor of Egerton Walk.

“The meals were a lifeline for me during my recovery” – Salford man tearfully explains how the community saved him during lockdown
A Salford man has expressed his gratitude to community organisations for providing him with hot meals whilst he recovered from cancer.
Graham Morgan was often faced with the decision to eat or keep warm when he was undergoing radiotherapy, but a community café in Salford recognised his struggle and decided to help.
