The family of a Salford mum suffering from a debilitating condition will host a party in Eccles to raise money to fund urgent neurosurgery that is not available on the NHS.
Diana Olijar, is a single mum suffering from Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), which can cause very flexible joints and stretchy, fragile skin.
Diana also has Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), which is an abnormal increase in heart rate that occurs after sitting up or standing, resulting in trouble walking, talking and hearing, fainting spells, dizziness and migraines.
Diana’s symptoms include neck instability and in 2017, her symptoms became unmanageable and she was signed off as unfit for work as a result.
Diana is currently unable to care for herself and so her friends and family currently take turns looking after her, as she doesn’t have a carer.
Diana explained: “I have not chosen my illness. I have been a dedicated, active and employed parent prior to this. Now I am fighting for survival.
“It has been extremely difficult for me to make a decision to ask for help publicly, but I have run out of options.”
Diana and her family have now decided to host a Halloween Party in Eccles hoping to raise some money to help with the costs of Diana’s neurosurgery.
Diana’s sister, Sabina Olijar, explained there will be a kids’ party in the afternoon, as well as an adults’ party in the evening of October 29.
The children’s Halloween party will have fun games, face painting and a zombie disco, costume contest, free lottery with a Smiths gift card prize and lots more.
The adults’ party will feature a disco with a DJ, open bar, costume contest, ticket lottery with gift card prizes and an auction, with Polish companies providing vouchers as prizes, and with traditional Polish food being served provided by Polish restaurants and much more.
Before her illness Diana was able to lead a healthy, active life as a cabin crew member at Thomas Cook Airlines while raising and looking after her daughter. She previously used to model and also used to volunteer and hike in her spare time.
The money will be raised through ticket sales, the auction, as well as products that will be at the party, such as cakes. There are still currently tickets available for the Halloween parties, especially the adults one.
The children’s party will be on October 29 from 1-5pm, whilst the adults’ party will also be hosted the same day from 6pm till midnight. Tickets are £3 per person for the children’s party whilst aged under 3’s is free. Tickets are £5 for the adults’ party.
