Slim is one of the UK’s biggest stand-up comedians and is performing at The Lowry during his Slim:King tour next Thursday.
The show will consist of his tales of fatherhood, relationships, and his 20 years of working life as a comedian. The show will be two hours long and will start at 8pm.
When Slim was asked what the people of Salford can expect from this tour he said: “They can expect a down to earth, friendly southerner guy. Because I do realise southerners don’t have a good reputation up north as being friendly. Friendly and funny. That’s going to be a very rare treat for northern people.”
The southern comedian first performed in 1993 at the Hackney Empire with an audience of 1,500 people, and is the first Black British act invited to perform at the Hollywood Comedy Store.
The multi award-winning artist has already had seven sold out tours and six smash hit comedy specials, including working with Kevin Hart and Dave Chapelle and seen on ‘The Russell Howard Hour’ and ‘Black, British & Funny’.
Slim was featured in a cameo on Dane Baptiste show ‘Sunny D’ back in 2016, which was filmed in Media City, but this will be his first big show in Salford.
He then went on to explain the importance of arts for local communities: “Arts is important, it doesn’t matter where you come from, working class, middle class, upper class, I think it’s a way, an avenue to express yourself in some form of art. Whether it be comedy, acting, singing, drama, theatre, I think it is very important. And I think that it’s important that the local authorities invest continuously in that area.”
