The 2021 debut of Salford’s Worsley Christmas Market promises a variety of stalls that offer locally sourced food and drink.

The Market will start from 10am-6pm on the 12th December at the Beesley Green Community Centre.

Event Organiser, Cat Rainey, said: ““I think more than anything it’s another great opportunity to bring people together.”

Miss Rainey began presenting the idea to the local community center, Beesley Green, in the summer of 2021. The plan was as Miss Rainey states, “to have a couple of stall holders in there to create a Christmas event.”

“But then since we launched it we were inundated with registrations from different businesses that wanted to take part.

At the moment we’ve probably got over thirty stall holders now and that’s growing.”

The Worsley Christmas Markets offer a variety of local businesses due to the areas entrepreneurial state. The new market offers a chance for many of these independent businesses to show case what they have built due to the lack of local markets in Worsley.

Miss Rainey said: “I think this is a really cost effective way for small businesses to showcase their local area and what they’ve been doing behind closed doors.

People rely on the internet quite a lot but there’s nothing more effective as face to face personal interaction, getting to know the business, getting to know your customer.”

The up rise in local markets has been linked to the surge in interest for sustainable living.

“After Covid, I think a lot more people are shopping more sustainably now and not necessarily shopping on the high street but preferring to support local businesses because they know where the economic impact is going.”

Based on the current market’s success Miss Rainey hopes the market will be the go-to event for the Worsley community.

“We do hope for it to be an annual thing and potentially even make it a quarterly thing with maybe one in the spring or in the summer/autumn and then one at Christmas.”

Miss Rainey further said: “We are going to put everything in place that we possibly can to keep people safe for sure.

“Part of the event is outdoors so we will make sure things are spaced out accordingly and then internally we will be doing a one way system and they’ll be an entrance and exit point with ventilation and obviously hand washing facilities.”

The 2021 central Manchester Christmas Markets have been attracting thousands of people every year. Markets around Greater Manchester are less popular due to their great competition.

The Worsley Christmas Market however remains targeted towards their local community.

“We haven’t gone too far out in the area in terms of advertising because we wanted it to feel like a community event where people could be brought together really. As well we do have to be mindful of the health and safety complications if too many people come.

I think people can expect to come and meet their neighbours, meet the local community, meet new people, businesses and just have a really nice day out as well.”

Miss Rainey hopes that the Market will encourage people to appreciate the beautiful areas Worsley has to offer such as Roe Green, and the Loopline railway root.
