Salford City left-back Ibou Touray wants to win it for the fans on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to Salford Now on Thursday, Touray said: “When it’s a derby game, I feel like the atmosphere is a lot more tense and everyone is a bit more excited.”

That would appear to include Salford’s 200 appearance-maker himself as he faces his former defensive partner Carl Piergianni, now at Oldham.

“I speak to him every now and then.

“I haven’t spoken to him in recent weeks, but I’m sure when I see him we’ll have a nice conversation and have a good battle on the pitch.”

The Former Everton player didn’t seem to be sure whether he and the man nicknamed ‘Pidge’ would do much talking after the game.

“We’ll see what happens.

“If we beat them, I doubt that he’ll want to speak to me anyway!”

200 games, 100 wins for Touray

The Gambia international reached a huge milestone earlier in the month as he played his 200th game for in Salford colours.

Touray was victorious in his landmark game, as City defeated Dagenham & Redbridge via Jordan Turnbull’s early goal in the first round of the FA Cup.

Due to international duty, he was unavailable until last Tuesday’s game against Bristol Rovers.

See what he had to say about his time at Salford so far, why he’s stayed so long and why he’s extended his contract for another two years, when Salford Now caught up with him, in the video below.

Match Preview

The Ammies come into the game off the back of a five-game undefeated streak. A win on Saturday will see them finish November having avoided defeat in all competitions throughout the month.

They currently lie in 16th place in the League Two table, six positions above Saturday’s opponents.

Last season Salford were competing for a play-off place, an ambition that is still the same for this season.

“[In] this League, things can change quickly”, Touray said.

“Some of the teams last season were even lower than us, and they shot right up.

“If we believe and we just keep winning games, I don’t see why we can’t get up there as well.”

Team News

Manager Gary Bowyer will be unable to pick Matty Willock or Ash Hunter as both are unavailable through suspension.

Both ex-Manchester United midfielder Willock and former Fleetwood player Hunter saw red during Tuesday’s dramatic draw against Bristol Rovers.

The rest of the squad is fit for selection, if not tired, after playing the second half against Joey Barton’s men with 10 men and nearly 20 minutes of stoppage time with only nine players on the pitch.
