The Lighthouse Church brought members of their congregation and community together this weekend to celebrate Christmas in their church for the first time since the emergence of Covid-19.

The Winter Ball, organised by the church’s youth team MVMNT, saw members of the congregation, family and friends as well as local community members celebrating the festive season together with prayers, songs, games, and more.

The night began with a performance of Christmas carol Hark! The Herald Angels Sing and a mashup of Location by Khalid and Dave’s song of the same name, performed by Peter Oladipo, a member of the MVMNT group.

Congregation member, Louise Amy Guard, said: “I had Covid-19 this time last year so it’s definitely different this year – it’s so fun to be around my family and to just celebrate Christmas with everyone”

The church put on a Christmas concert last year before Greater Manchester, including Salford, was sent into Tier 3 regulations.

Masks were worn at all times, there was very little dancing or mixing within the crowd, and people kept their distance.

Peter said: “I performed here this time last year [for the] same event but because it was Covid thick we didn’t do much really, it wasn’t a ball, we just got together and sang some songs.”

Now regulations have been loosened this Christmas season, the church was able to put on a Winter Ball, allowing congregation members to celebrate the holiday with loved ones and share their good spirit with the community.

The Winter Ball was a black-tie event with everyone dusting off their best suits and dresses to celebrate together in style.

Food cooked by members of the church was prayed over and shared among those who attended, much different to the previous year, attendees were able to enjoy a festive meal together as well as each other’s company.

The festivities continued with a lip sync battle, challenges between the tables of people, more festive performances and lots of dancing and Christmas cheer.

Amy continued: “I’m super excited, it’s been a long time, during Covid it was really tough.”

“We weren’t able to perform as much as we do now so I’m so excited to be out and around all my family.”

Lighthouse Church is holding several events over Christmas. Details are on the website .
