Bob Clarke, Conservative councillor for Boothstown and Ellenbrook, has voiced his displeasure at the Salford skyline following plans for a new high-rise tower.

A 42-story tower has been proposed by developer Renaker near Trinity Way in Salford but proposals were later amended because of its prominence over nearby listed buildings.

Speaking during yesterday’s Planning and Transportation Regulatory Panel, Councillor Clarke said the view of Salford is: “the grimmest place on Earth. I look out these windows and the life drains out of me.”

Speaking to Salford Now this morning, Councillor Clarke said: “It’s grey, concrete buildings. There’s no greenery to look out across.

“I feel like the life is draining out of me because It’s just horrible. There’s no colour, there’s no nature. It’s just horrible. It’s just concrete blocks.”

Speaking of the tower itself, Clarke described it as an “anaemic, no architectural value building.”

Renaker’s new tower proposes 444 apartments and was approved by councillors, despite some criticism from councillors.

At the same committee meeting, councillors approved plans for 177 new council homes in Little Hulton.
