Salford City’s Ash Hunter is confident about his sides chances heading into their League Two fixture with Swindon Town this weekend.

Salford are currently on a three match unbeaten run, including most recently a 2-0 victory over Leyton Orient in which Hunter grabbed an assist for Theo Vassell’s winning goal.

The Ammies currently sit in 11th place in the table while Swindon occupy one of the crucial play-off spots but Hunter is feeling confident ahead of the fixture.

In a pre-match press conference, Hunter said: “We’re going into this game with a lot of confidence, after the last couple of games unbeaten.”

In the last meeting between the two sides, Swindon Town ran out 1-0 victors at the Peninsula stadium back in August – the highlights of which can be seen below:

Salford have not played since February 12, after last weekend’s home fixture against Crawley Town was postponed due to poor weather conditions.

Swindon on the other hand celebrated a 5-0 win over Walsall last time out, giving them some great momentum off the back of two successive 3-0 victories against Scunthorpe United and Carlisle United respectively.

In spite of this, Hunter remains confident in his team’s chances, saying: “I don’t think it affects us [Swindon’s momentum].

“With that game off last week we’ve had a nice rest and we’re ready to go again.”

This fixture is important for Salford’s promotion hopes, with victory potentially pushing them above Bristol Rovers into eighth in the table, and defeat putting a pause on their play-off hopes for now.

Speaking about Salford’s league position, Hunter said: “I’d say it’s an important game but every game that is the next game is just as important as each other.

“We’re just concentrating on this game, not any of the games that are after.”

So far in League Two, Hunter has scored one goal and grabbed four assists in 21 appearances. He weighed in on his performances, saying: “I’d say my season started slowly. I was banned, I had Covid, came back for a bit, got injured, got banned again.

“I’m getting back to full fitness now and I’m starting to play week in week out, so hopefully I can start earning some more goals and assists.”

Hunter has put his assists down to his role as set piece taker for Salford, saying: “I’ve been taking our set pieces so I’ve got chances to provide for other people.”
