Cadishead Rhinos under 9’s coach says the community has rallied around to help him get close to achieving 31 five-kilometre runs in the month of March.

Chris Blood, coach of the rugby team, has taken the challenge of running a total of 155k, so that his team can take part in The Primary Rugby League Festival in London.

The festival will take place on the 28th May, the same day as the Challenge Cup final, and the Cadishead Rhinos under 9’s will get the chance to walk on the pitch before the game.

The Challenge Cup final will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium this year, changing from Wembley.

Chris, 41 said: “Big experiences like this really have a massive impact on children”

“Especially centered around sports and physical activity, it’s a great thing for them

It’s not just Blood who is raising the money to go however, with many activities and actions being taken alongside this.

He said: “It feels great, really good, but that’s just a small part of it really.”

He noted how it’s been a huge community effort, with players mums doing cake sales, the children taking donation boxes outside the Salford Red Devils match, and even an upcoming race night.

Chris, who is also a TV freelance editor, said: “It’s taking its toll definitely, there’s been a lot of ice baths.

“I’ll be glad when it’s done.

“It’s been unbelievable really to to raise that much money by doing a few runs.”

The fundraiser page can be found here, to support Chris in the final few days of his challenge.
