Salford resident Ioan Jones is in the last five of this year’s Masterchef competition and the final will be broadcast nationally tonight on BBC 1 at 8pm.

The 38-year-old marketing manager, who is originally from Wales, made his first appearance on the show in this season’s seventh episode. He demonstrated his skills right away with a pork saltimbocca dish which left the judges confident that they have found a contestant with great potential.

In the quarter-final episode, host John Torode said that the Jones has so far had an exceptional competition. He had a stressful time in the kitchen on his second dish working on the strict timer, but produced two dishes which were given excellent reviews by the judges.

His third appearance in the series saw him battle 9 other semi-finalists in a ‘restaurant service’ styled competition where they served their dishes to 20 former Masterchef competitors. Co-host Gregg Wallace said that “his dishes are ambitious and he has an eye for detail.”

In this episode Ioan made a sticky toffee apple pudding with compressed apple, and a pecan crumb celeriac ice cream which stunned the hosts and was loved by the guests which consisted of the shows’ former quarter-finalists, semi-finalists and finalists – all of whom have gone on to have full-time careers in the food industry since taking part in the competition.

You can catch up on Ioan’s journey so far before tonight’s final, on BBC iPlayer now.
