NORMALLY fundraisers are connected with dinners, lotteries or sports events, but a couple of guys decided to clash stand-up comedy and performance poetry together to help homeless people in Manchester. “Punk in Drublic Poetry” (PIDP) is certainly something for itself.
The evening is to be held at The Old Pint Pot where experienced comedians such as Danny McLoughlin, Hannah Platt and Jo D’Arcy as well as poets Thick Richard, Sky Wolf and Ros Ballinger are to tickle the audience’s ribs.
One of the two people behind the event is Robert Steventon, who explained the idea behind the evening: “Having been performing poetry and working as stage manager for comedy shows for a few years, I’ve always thought that there’s room for crossover and convergence between the two arts.
“That’s exactly what PIDP aims to both explore and exploit, in the most fun and inclusive way possible.”

The door takings are going to the charity organization Mustard Tree, who are aiming to lessen and eliminate the troubles of Manchester’s homeless.
“Homelessness has become a vastly more visible and tangible problem in Manchester and Salford over the past few years.
“The Mustard Tree’s endeavours are exactly the kind of pro-active, practical, preventative help that we all need to support. So I’m completely chuffed to be raising funds for them.”
As well as the headlining guests “Punk in Drublic Poetry” encourages members form the audience to have a spot in the limelight. All Open Micers get in for free, but donations are obviously welcomed inside the pub as well.
Steventon can hardly wait for the show saying: “The evening’s going to be an utter blast. I’ve expanded the open mic section to make it more inclusive, but there are 6 amazing headliners doing longer sets.
“Danny McLoughlin won last year’s comedian’s comedian compere award and Thick Richard has a list of accolades as long as my arm.”
And if everything goes as planned there are talks of making the event into a recurring thing: “I’ve started booking for April’s event already. I’d imagine there’ll be a few tweaks made here and there to finely tune as the night moves on, but I’m definitely looking at longevity.
“As a Salford graduate, I’m keen for the university to have as great an involvement as possible.”
There will also be held a charity raffle with prizes from The Comedy Store, Zymurgorium Manchester Gin, The Old Pint Pot itself and more.
The PIDP is going to be held at The Old Pint Pot 29 March with tickets being available to buy at Party for the People.
