AHEAD of the BBC’s Rip Off Britain Pop Up Shop this weekend, Mica Robinson speaks to production coordinator, Kevin Griffin, about the Intu Trafford Centre based event.

The Intu Trafford Centre will once again host the BBC’s Rip Off Britain Pop Up Shop on 10th and 11th March.

This is within the making of the ninth series of the BBC daytime programme. Pop up shops have been held all over the country, but are sticking with the Intu Trafford Centre after last year’s success there, although it will be slightly different.

Kevin Griffin, production coordinator for Rip Off Britain, says: “It’s in a slightly different area, and there’s going to be more experts”.

There will be two more experts than last year’s pop up shop, including two travel experts instead of one.

Rip Off Britain’s team are based within BBC Dock House at MediaCityUK, and so the Intu Trafford Centre is convenient to travel to.

The Intu Trafford Centre is also the second largest shopping centre in the United Kingdom, and so is perfect to speak to a great amount of the public.

Previous locations of the Rip Off Britain Pop Up Shop have included Nottingham, Liverpool, and Gateshead. Kevin says that locating the pop up shop in the Intu Trafford Centre will give more value for money to the TV license payers.

Over the Friday and Saturday that the pop up shop will be active, there will be eight industry experts, covering topics such as travel, finance, law and technology. Not forgetting of course Rip Off Britain’s three presenters; Gloria Hunniford, Angela Rippon and Julia Somerville.

Advice can be received from one large area on the ground floor of the Intu Trafford Centre, on the John Lewis side of the mall.

This will consist of experts from Rip Off Britain’s main series and holidays series.

As well as this, there will also be a gripe section to enable the public to get things off their chests about some of the things that have left them feeling ripped off.

To speak to the team about attending the pop up shop ahead of this weekend, email ripoffbritain@bbc.co.uk, and if any time slots are not filled, Rip Off Britain can speak to people who just turn up on the day.
