Greater Manchester Police believe a hooded man could be connected to the Gorton shooting, in which containing a woman and young child were targeted.

Officers were called to a property on Sutton Road, Gorton, at 12.20am following reports of gun fire.

Police believes a hooded man in a silver Volkswagen Golf approached the property and fired a handgun at the window.

Both a woman and a child were present at the home but neither were injured.

Understandably, police are extremely concerned by the incident and are appealing to the public to remain vigilant and to get in touch immediately with any information.

And GMP have promised concerned local residents that their will be an increased number of officers in the area in the coming days.

Detective Inspector Muz Kernain, of GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “This is a serious incident that will understandably cause concern in the area. 
  
“We believe that this was a targeted attack that poses no threat to the wider community and we have increased patrols in response. 
  
“A mother and child have been left extremely shaken by this traumatic ordeal and it is fortunate that neither of them were injured. 
  
“I would urge anyone who saw anything that can help our investigation to contact us.”
