Stockport Borough Council is calling for residents to get behind a project which aims to deliver groceries to people who can’t get out of the house or carry heavy shopping due to disabilities or poor health.

‘Pantry Pedal Power’ is a scheme by Your Local Pantry and has been shortlisted for this year’s People’s Projects funding.

The People’s Projects is open to a public vote, with the three projects with the most votes receiving up to £50,000 in funding.

Pantry Pedal Power also pledges to offer training in the retail industry to long-term unemployed people, allowing them to develop the skills, expertise and confidence to get back into work.

Councillor Sheila Bailey, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Communities and Housing, praised the scheme:

“I’d like to congratulate Your Local Pantry for being shortlisted for this year’s The People’s Projects. Your Local Pantry and its volunteers work very hard to help local residents save money on their food bills, whilst offering training opportunities.

“This is a fantastic project and I’d encourage all residents to vote so they can get this much-needed funding.”

The project is also scheduled to feature on ITV Granada News at 6pm tonight and you can cast your vote by clicking this link and selecting the Pantry Pedal Power project. Voting closes at 12 noon on Monday 3 April.
