Following the cruciate ligament injury to the team’s top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which threatened to put an end at the career of the Swedish superstar, Manchester United’s injury curse has claimed another victim in the club’s draw against Swansea at home last Sunday.

Luke Shaw, who has been troubled with serious injuries since the start of his professional career, was included in the starting line-up for the ninth time in the season but only managed to stay on the pitch for nine minutes before suffering a leg injury, resulting in him being replaced by Antonio Valencia.

The season has not been going well for the young defender, who has received public criticism by his coach, Jose Mourinho, despite being a starter at the first five games of the Premier League.

The strained relations between Shaw and Mourinho, combined with the groin injury that kept him away from action for more than two months, led to his removal from the squad.

Manchester United staff have fears that Shaw’s leg injury will not allow him to contribute for the rest of the season, as his rehabilitation period is estimated to at least one month.

Shaw’s injury means that the Portuguese coach can’t receive the services of as many as eight players for the Thursday Europa League semi-finals first leg against Celta Vigo.

Apart from Shaw and Ibrahimovic, the injury list includes names such as Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and James Wilson.

The rest of the season is going to be extremely tough for the Red Devils with their Europa League course still going on, and the attempt to ensure a spot for next year’s Champions League being at the most intense stage.
