On Saturday night in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley Stadium Anthony Joshua called out Wythenshawe born Fury following his victory over Wladimir Klitschko.

Joshua stopped Klitschko in the 11th round of a fight that is being referred to by many as an instant classic. Joshua was floored in the sixth round for the first time in his career. However Joshua dug deep and found his rhythm in the 11th round leading to him flooring Klitschko on two occasions before the referee eventually stopped the bout. The victory takes Joshua to a win ratio of 19-0 with all of those 19 being knockouts.

The victory over Klitschko means Anthony Joshua now holds the WBA, IBF and IBO titles. Fury relieved Klitschko of these titles in December of 2015, the last time he competed before Saturdays fight. During the seventeen months away from the sport, Fury was stripped of his boxing licence by the Boxing Board of Control due to testing positive for cocaine. He was declared “medically unfit” to compete due to a battle with depression.

Fury had previously taken to Instagram to wish both fighters good luck for the fight. He said:

“Good luck tonight pal. Do the business. I wish you all the luck in the world. Let’s make the biggest fight in British boxing history happen. The real biggest fight. Get through this tonight and let’s do it. God bless you both and I hope you make it out safe and sound to your families.”

In his post-match interview Joshua took the mic to say:

“Fury, Tyson Fury where are you at baby, I want to fight everyone. I know Tyson Fury’s been talking a lot and he wants to compete, I want to give 90,000 people another chance to see a lovely night of boxing. ”

Fury has returned to training in Marbella and since the fight has taken to social media to leave a number of messages for the newly crowned Heavyweight Champion of the World. Saying that he is “ready to dance whenever” and that he could beat Joshua with “one arm tied behind his back” as he is just a “weightlifting punk”.

Anthony Joshua will be at The Lowry Theatre on the 12th of May for “An evening with Anthony Joshua” details and tickets are available here.
