WITH Yorkshire announcing their own international football team, the office at Quays decided to work out who would receive a cap if a Manchester international squad were created.
Players from the past and from the present were included and the formation has been decided as a 4-3-3 to utilise all of the players available.
Goalkeeper:
At the moment, Tom Heaton is a viable choice for Goalkeeper. The 31-Year-Old from Chester currently plays for Burnley and has, on occasion, found his way into the England set-up.
His age also means that he has the experience to command and organise the defence, ensuring that clean sheets will be a possibility.
Defence:
Manchester’s defence may look old and slow on paper, but the players selected have a wealth of trophies between them.
Brothers Gary and Phil Neville will marshal the wings at Right and Left back respectively. The two siblings have won 14 Premier League medals between them.
Wales international James Chester, who comes from Warrington, will play centre-back and has played an important role for Aston Villa in the Championship.
Phil Jagielka, a stalwart of Everton’s defence for the last ten years, will partner Chester at centre-back.
Midfielder:
It is a similar level of experience in midfield, as two members of the Class of 92, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt will cover the defence.
The two midfielders, who now co-own Salford City, both are Manchester born-and-bred. Scholes was born in Pendleton, while Butt was born in Gorton.

[pullquote]”Paul Scholes has been an integral part of our recent success” – Sir Alex Ferguson [/pullquote] Nicky Butt was involved in 53 goals for United, either as the goal scorer or with an assist, while Danny Drinkwater of Chelsea and winner of the Premier League title with Leicester City in 2015-16, also plays in central midfield.
Attack
With the high level of experience in defence and midfield, it is a relatively youthful front line for the Manchester international side, with an average age of just 23.
Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford have burst onto the scene for Manchester United during the last few seasons and look set for a bright future in the game.
Rashford from Wythenshawe, has the pace and has played a vital role in big games and scoring late winners for United, despite only being 20 years old.
Lingard, from Warrington, has been in great form recently, scoring two goals against Arsenal this season and a regular appearance on the United team sheet. Danny Welbeck is leading the line.
The former United striker, born in Longsight, left for Arsenal in 2014 and while injuries have plagued his career since joining, he hasn’t lost sight of goal and when fit is an asset to any team.
