Curzon Ashton have proved that there is more to being a good football club than just what is on the pitch.

They may be in the National League, but their treatment of fans is Champions League level.

The club have announced that they will be opening their doors on Christmas day between 10am and 1pm for anyone local who may be lonely on a day where no one should be alone.

As well as providing warmth and a place to go, the club will also be providing visitors with a free cooked breakfast as well as games, music and entertainment to make the day as enjoyable as they possibly can.

Free transport is also available for anyone who may struggle getting to the ground, with public transport not running on Christmas day.

The club are expecting around 50 people to attend and are looking for donations in order to provide those visiting with a Christmas present. Suggestions for gifts are Toiletries, hats, gloves, scarves and socks.

Andy Cheshire is the clubs Community Development Manager and had this to say on the idea.

“We decided to open the doors on Christmas morning, originally to try and attract homeless people of Tameside to give them a shower and a cooked breakfast, but we have a link now with Ambition For Ageing so we have decided to open it up for anybody”

Fans on twitter also reacted to the fantastic gesture, describing the offer as amazing and fabulous, with fans of other clubs even heaping the praise on Curzon.

I think we can all agree this is a truly heart-warming gesture from a real community club, and it will be greatly appreciated by the public on a day which can prove extremely tough for those who are alone.

If anyone would like to donate a gift to the club, they can do so by contacting Andy Cheshire at the club on 0161 3306033 or emailing Andy@Curzon-ashton.co.uk.
