LAST night saw nine local up and coming Manchester musicians celebrate all things Manchester at the Scruff of the Neck End of Year Blowout at the Ritz.

2017 hasn’t been the easiest for the music scene of Manchester, after hundreds of people were affected by the attack on our biggest music venue, the Manchester Arena in May and it was announced recently that popular music venue SoundControl is opening its doors for the last time tomorrow night.

However, Scruff of the Neck,  a music company who run concerts, tours and release records to grow up and coming artists in the United Kingdom, saw the festive period as an opportune time to celebrate all of the great things that Manchester bands have achieved this past year through the End of Year Blowout event at The Ritz.

The evening welcomed groups such as Foxglove, a band who were established just two years ago in Salford. Lead singer Abi White explained how exciting it is to play such an iconic venue like The Ritz:

“When you think about all the big bands that have played here in the past it’s amazing. There’s so much talent here.”

Foxglove have gone from strength to strength in 2017, as they have grown from being a student band playing small venues, to releasing their first single on Spotify and supporting other local bands such as The Wytches.

You can hear Foxgloves single, Tuesday here:

Another band who took to the stage at the End of Year Blowout were The Glass Caves, who recently completed a European tour. The band were tweeting that they were supporting other performers by watching their sets before they took to the stage to perform much loved hits such as “Swim” and “I Do.”

Scruff of the Neck commented on the evening, saying that

“It seems only fitting that we should celebrate what’s been a truly amazing year, and what better way to do so than with a colossal two stage show at one of the city’s best loved venues.”

Here’s what lead singer of Foxglove and Quays News reporter Abi White had to say about the evening:

Scruff of the Neck also have many events planned for the new year, with plenty of gigs from a range of artists around Manchester. You can find out more about the bands Scruff of the Neck support here.
