Looking for something to do and not wanting to spend a fortune, then look no further because we have put together a list of six free events in Salford. 

Worsley Woods Bat walk: On Wednesday 9th May, join a ranger at twilight as you search for bats in Worsley Woods. The woods occupy 30 hectres of stunning woodland and is readily accessible from Bridgewater canal and Salford’s network looplines.

You’ll get the chance to use specialist bat detecting equipment. Meet at the play area off Sefton drive. Make sure to wear suitable footwear and wrap up warm.

Don’t forget to bring a torch! Booking is essential, make sure you don’t miss out.

 

 

Bridgewater Bats: On Friday 18th May, explore the delights of the Bridgewater canal bats.

Coming in at number two in our list is another bat walk.

Join in with this family friendly walk in the dusk. Watch bats hunt insects as they fly over Salford’s Bridgewater canal.

Like Worsley Woods bat walk, make sure to wear suitable footwear and wrap up warm. The walk starts at 8pm and should finish around 10. Booking is essential, make sure you don’t miss out.

 

Bridgewater Weekender: Celebrate 257 years of Bridgewater canal with the Bridgewater Weekender on Sunday 8th July. A free festival of family fun, entertainment, live music, heritage, food, drink and crafts set in a beautiful country park.

Opening on the 17th July 1761, the Bridgewater Canal has a special place in history as the first canal in Britain to be built without following an existing watercourse, and so became a model for those that followed it.

Running from 12pm until 5pm everyone is welcome.

One drawing at a time: To celebrate 10 years of Urban sketching, the Salford Museum and Art Gallery bring some of Manchester’s finest local drawings from member of the Manchester urban sketchers group.

Urban sketching started in Seattle in 2007, with the idea to share the world one drawing at a time.

It has since become a world phenomenon, with artists sharing their passion for on sight drawing. This free exhibition is available until Sunday the 10th June.

 

Wild teas, tinctures and tonics – Explore the delights of Bridgewater Canal: On Saturday 16thJune join naturalist, Dave Winnard, on a foraging walk to find some tasty natural ingredients.

Learn to make drinks and natural remedies from the ingredients you find.

At the end of the walk you’ll get to try some of Dave’s natural concoctions! Booking is essential as this event will be busy.

It starts at 10am and should finish around midday.

Roses and Castles – traditional canal craft sessions: Join canal signwriter Fred Worthington as he gives you a teaching masterclass of this traditional art form.

You’ll get to take home a gorgeously painted planter that will brighten up any window.

The event is on Sunday 24th June and will start at 10am finishing at 5pm.
