Salford City will kick off their Manchester Premier Cup season by welcoming Ashton United to the Peninsula Stadium tonight (KO 19:45 BST).
This evenings clash will be the first time the teams have met following Salford’s promotion into the National League North at the end of the 2016/17 season. Graham Alexanders side have since been promoted to the National League, following a spectacular 2017/18 season.
Ashton were promoted into the National League North at the end of last season.
The last meeting between the teams was in April 2016 ended in a 3-1 win for Salford in the Northern Premier League playoffs.

Ashton is the most successful team in the competition’s history, having won the cup 15 times, but have not won the cup since 2003.
Salford are hoping to better last year’s effort when they were defeated 3-0 in the quarter-final by FC United of Manchester, who went on to win the competition.
The Ammies have won their last five games and currently sit top of the National League, one point ahead of second place Leyton Orient.
The Robins, on the other hand, sit 14th in the National League North after winning just one game out of their last six.
Adam Rooney will be looking to continue his good run of form, including a hat-trick against a struggling Dover on Saturday, took his goal tally up to nine goals in 14 games.
A fortunate lack of injuries for both teams means that managers Graham Alexander and Danny Johnson will be looking forward to fielding a full strength team.

Admission will be cash on the gate with fans being encouraged to use turnstile B on Moor Lane. Tickets will cost £5 for adults and concessions being £2.
