Sale Sharks have been dealt a major blow after discovering winger Marland Yarde will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury picked up in Saturday’s victory over Newcastle.

The former Harlequins man suffered the injury towards the end of the 20-7 win at the AJ Bell, and it has since been confirmed he has ruptured his MCL and ACL ligaments and dislocated his knee.

It comes after an impressive start to the season for Yarde, having scored three tries in six matches. His absence will not only have an impact on his club side, but it also leaves him in a race to be fit for next year’s World Cup in Japan.

Sale have already been without one of their first choice wingers this season in Chris Ashton, who is still serving a seven-week ban for a tip tackle in a pre-season friendly against Castres. His return to action, possibly against Connacht on October 20 cannot come soon enough.

In better news for Steve Diamond’s men, 27-year-old Tom Bristow has arrived from French side Narbonne. The prop has previous Premiership experience at London Welsh, Leicester Tigers and Wasps.
