The Manchester Half Marathon took place yesterday in and around Salford with the starting line at Bridgewater Way in Salford Quays and the glorious finish line at the Emirates Cricket Ground.
The marathon claims to be the flattest, fastest and most importantly the friendliest one in the region. With over 13,000 runners taking part in the 13.1 mile challenge, there’s one thing for sure; the only unlucky part of the day was the weather.
It was torrential rain all day, however this did not dampen the spirits of both the runners and the spectators. Hundreds of spectators; family and friends, lined the streets and cheered for their loved ones donning their waterproof ponchos and umbrellas.

Coming in first was Andy Vernon with a finish time of 1:03:36. Luke Traynor and Kieran Clements came second and third, with only seconds between them.
Helen Taylor, a fundraising assistant for St Ann’s Hospice Salford, explained how ‘fundraising is so important and really helps the organisation’.

“We have 6 runners here today running for St Ann’s Hospice so I think this is a great way to not only keep fit and have fun within the community but also raise loads of money too.”
