Eccles Shopping Centre in Salford is holding its light switch-on on Saturday.

Activities run from 11am with the switch-on at midday and more attractions after it.

There will be free mulled wine (non-alcoholic) and mince pies for the adults. Children have the opportunity to have their face painted.  Ian “Zippy” Lees will be entertaining with magic tricks and balloon modelling around the square from 11am-3pm so there will be plenty of time for the children to have fun as well as shopping time for the adults.

With many of the shops having Christmas deals, such as Greggs selling festive bakes and Bonmarché having 30 per cent off, Eccles Shopping Centre is a great place to shop. There will be a much calmer environment in comparison to bigger venues such as the Trafford Centre where everyone will be shopping in madness. Not only is the winter discounts enough around Christmas time, you will be surrounded by festive spirit and a happy mood.

There will be carol singers as well as performances from the Barton Theatre group to bring that warm and Christmas feeling to life.

“We’ve been part of the Eccles lights switch on for many years and are always involved with community events in Eccles. We are an Eccles based group and it’s great to see so many familiar faces from the community who come to watch our productions. We’re looking forward to Saturday and will be advertising our pantomime Snow White which is taking place at the The Lowry studio 4-6 January 2019,” said Barton Theatre Company.

From 11:00am there will also be an Irish Pipe Band – Fianna Phadraig, playing in the centre.

The Fianna Phádraig Pipe Band is delighted to take part in Saturday’s Christmas Lights Switch On at Eccles Shopping Centre. As a family-oriented band, we are keen to introduce the pipes and drums to young and old alike, while bringing a little Christmas joy to one and all. And, who knows? we may even spark an interest to come along and learn an instrument with us. As we always say, “It’s Fun, it’s Free, it’s Fantastic!” said Peter O’Connor, Pipe Major Fianna Phádraig Pipe Band.

You can take your children to visit the main man himself, Santa, plus his elves at his grotto from 12:00pm – 2:00pm every Saturday until the 22nd December. With Christmas being a hard time for some with spending money, every child that takes a visit to see Santa will receive a free present alongside it being free admission into the grotto. As well as this, there is a ‘naughty elf’ that will be causing ‘chaos’ that the children are also able to meet.

The shops within the shopping centre will not be affected by the light switch-on and will be open as per normal. Alongside your everyday shops, there will also be the Community Café and Farmers’ Market stalls.
