A Salford primary school near the burnt-out Lucozade factory is still closed due to asbestos debris from last week’s blaze.

Wharton Primary School is shut until November 26, as work is still being carried out to clear the area after the fire in Little Hulton last week.

A letter was sent to the parents of pupils at the school said the debris needs to be removed before the school can re-open.

Salford City Council has carried out risk assessments to make sure that it would be safe for the school to be open again as normal.

Cathy Starbuck, assistant director of education, work and skills, said: “We realise this is not an ideal situation, however I am sure you can appreciate that the safety of the children and staff is paramount.”
