From the Jam and 5ive are among the bands in the line-up for this year’s Irlam Live festival – with a Saturday headliner still to be announced.

Also playing live this summer will be Dave Finnegan’s Commitments, The Christians, Lancashire Hotpots, 5ive,  Nathan Moore, Salford Jets, and The Farm.

Held in Prince’s Park, Irlam M44 6BR, the annual music festival will take place next June 1 and 2 , early in the festival season.

With past headliners such as Tony Hadley and Jason Donovan, the event is high in many estimations and is not only a whirlwind back into your nostalgia days, but the platform for brand new acts for the local community.

Irlam Live began in 2016, as a dream of Irlam residents who wanted to do something for their hometown. It started as a small idea for a small beer festival with tribute bands, but when local business’ got involved, the support blew up, and organisers were able to get Tony Hadley and Billy Ocean as headliners.

” When we found out we had Tony Hadley, he was still in the jungle for I’m a celebrity!

Darren Goulden, co-organiser for Irlam Live, commented:  “I was born in Salford but have lived in Irlam for the best part of 50 years, and we have a fantastic park where the council had built a great amphitheatre, but it has never been used. We wanted to do something for the people who have lived here all my life.”

“The community support has been fantastic! Great, great support, we have between 4,000-8,000 people come down every year for Irlam Live, and they love it. The atmosphere is safe and it’s on their own doorstep. It’s becoming an annual event where you haven’t saw school friends in a long time but you and come together and have a great time and catch up.”

Regular vendors offer cheaply priced pints, fresh fish and chips, and stalls for all the family.

Ticket pricesvary, and for a weekend ticket, for adults it is £55, and under 16s is £22. However, if you just want to pop down for the day, it will cost £41 for adults, but £16.50 for under 16s.

Jess Kemp, an artist who performed at Irlam Live, also spoke to Salford Now about her experience at the festival.

“It blew up in the first year, and at the time I was trying to get my career started, and I thought the perfect platform would be to get on a stage of that size in the local area.

“Since then every year people keep wanting you to come back.

“It was so surreal, I played alongside The Wailers who were the headlines the day I performed, and I was backstage with them and they were just so normal. I remember speaking to the drummer for a long time, and he saw our set and was very complimentary.

“It’s something different, and so many people say its put ‘Irlam on the Map!’ The more Irlam Live can support the community back, the better it’s going to be.”
