A clothes shop based in Sale has raised £500 for Salford Royal Hospital’s critical care unit (CCU).

Sister Code was moved to support the fundraising bid due to having had family members treated by the hospital’s CCU department.

“One of our family members used the unit, and whilst they were there they didn’t have radios and TVs for the patients,” said a spokesperson for the business.

“Pieces of equipment have been donated by other families, so we also wanted to give something back.”

Sister Code has an overall goal of £1,000, which they hope will be achieved through a fund-raising event on Saturday 8 December

A Sister Code spokesperson said: “We have set our self a target of £1000, and we are just about half way to that target right now, so we hope to achieve that, if not more on Saturday.”

“The event is being held on Saturday at the shop, we are going to be doing hair-braiding for little girls or adults in return for donations.

“We are going to have a raffle going, which we have quite a lot of prizes that have been donated from different local businesses.

“There will also be a donations bucket that we will be taking around, and we’ve also got refreshments and stuff on the day.”

The Sale-based company are hoping to raise funds that will help buy recreational items for the wards, that weren’t readily available during during their time at the hospital.

The spokesperson added that she hopes other local businesses follow suit.

“We hope others take a leaf out of our book, we were quite taken back that patients didn’t have radios and televisions.

“A lot of the patients are in comas and research has proven that having a radio or a television can help a patient come out of a coma more quickly.

“Both wards were high-tech, but with the NHS at the moment it’s the smaller things like radios that often get missed, but can be quite valuable to a patient’s recovery.”

The event takes place at Sister Code from 11am on Saturday.
