O2 customers in Salford and across the UK have been left with no signal this morning after the provider suffered a software issue.

According to Down Detector the network dropped at around 4am this morning.

Customers have had trouble using 3G/4G and have been unable to make and receive calls and texts.

O2 said: “We are aware our customers are unable to use data this morning. Our technical teams are working on the issue with high priority. We are really sorry and working as hard and as fast as we can to fix this.”

They later added: “Outage Update: One of our 3rd party suppliers has identified a software issue in their system. Our technical teams are working extremely hard to resolve this. We’d encourage you to use Wi-Fi wherever you can and we are really sorry.”

Salford Now spoke to the people of Salford to find out how the outage has affected them.

Sarah said: “I’m with Giffgaff on the O2 network, I had childcare issues this morning, I needed to contact someone and I couldn’t.”

Caroline added: “I can still access wifi but multiple times on the tram this morning I got an error message saying that there were no calls available. I’m stewarding an event so it could be necessary for me to use my phone so it (the outage) could have some pretty severe situations arise if theres an emergency.”
